Add a Logo to Your Photos - Protect Them From Theft
This sounds easy on the face of it doesn't it? You take your logo and superimpose it on your photo. Simple. But wrong! Your logo may look fine on a white background but if your 'stamp' it on a photo with a different colour background it will appear within a white box. So how do you get rid of this box? And what is the best way to superimpose your logo on your photos and make it harder for people to steal them? Read on.
How to stamp your logo on your product photos and then optimise (for use on eBay for example)
So what is the best way to stamp your logo on your product photo? And what software do you need to do it?
I too was trying to figure this out not too long ago and it took a lot of time and trial and error to find what I think is the best method. You will not need to purchase any software - everything you need can be downloaded for free or as a trial.
Stage one
First, you need to remove the background from your logo. It may look transparent but, in reality, your logo is on a square white background. It only appears transparent because the chances are you are looking at it on a white background!
The easiest way to do this is to download a trial package such as photoshop or paintshop pro. These are easily found and the trials usually last for 30 days. Fasttasks 2 49 – the troubleshooting app. I used Coral Paintshop Pro X3. Apolloone 2 3 0.
Open up your image in the main view and select the magic wand icon (this is in the column on the left). Click on the white background behind your logo. This will automatically outline your logo with a dotted line - it is now 'selected'.
You can now use the eraser tool on the background (again it is on the left column). In other words, the magic wand tool has selected your logo so that the eraser willnotact on it - it will only erase everything else. Increase the eraser to a decent size and start erasing. As you erase the white background, it will be replaced by a checkered or chess-board pattern. Keep going until everything behind the logo is 'checkered'. You should be able to erase over your logo without it being affected but just be careful if there is any white in it as this too may be erased. If there are any fiddly bits, reduce the size of the eraser and/or zoom into your image for greater control.
You now need to change the erased background to a 'transparency'. On the menu bar click on 'image' then 'palette' then 'set palette transparency' (this may vary slightly between the different software packages but the idea is the same).

You will then be told that the image needs to be converted to a 256-colour palette. This is fine so click OK.
Then you want to click the button next to 'set the transparency value to the current background' (or words to that effect). In other words, the checkered part of the logo will appear the same colour as whatever background you place it on and you will not get that annoying white square.
Now save this new transparency version as a gif and you're halfway there.
Important note- do not try to resize this image yet. If you do, the white background will be reinstated and you will have to start all over again. Use the method below to resize.
Stage Two
You now need to superimpose your newly-tweaked logo on your product photo. I find the easiest way to do this is with Microsoft Word and the snipping tool found in Vista/Windows 7 (if you haven't got Vista or Windows 7 you can download it separately - just type in 'Windows Snipping tool download' into Google).
Open up a new word file.
Click 'insert' and then 'picture'.
Select your main product photo and click OK
Click on the 'format' tab at the top if it isn't already selected
Click on 'text wrapping' and select 'through'
Click 'insert' and then 'picture'
Select your logo
Click on the 'format' tab at the top if it isn't already selected
Click on 'text wrapping' and select 'through'
Resize your logo photo by clicking on the bottom right corner and 'dragging' it to the correct size
Now slide your logo onto your photo and hey presto - you're there! (if your logo slides behind the main photo, click on the format tab and then 'bring to front')

Now you want to create a new jpeg image of this new logo-stamped product photo.
This is where the snipping tool comes in. Open the tool, select the photo and then save as your new jpeg. You now have a brand new logo-stamped jpeg image of your product.
If you need a particular size photo (for using on Ebay for example) I tend to use irfanview. It is totally free and you can find it by typing in 'irfanview download' into Google. It allows you to convert batches of photos to different sizes and formats.
I hope this helps. There are a few guides out there that tell you parts of this process but I couldn't find anything that goes from beginning to end so hopefully this will be of use.

It is well known that printer manufacturers sell their printers at very low prices and make their profits from selling inks at very high prices. In many cases it is cheaper to buy a new printer than to buy a full set of new branded inks!
The Ink Squid buys high-quality inks in very large numbers. This means they can be sold at very low prices - in fact, with the bigger multi-pack deals, cartridges are as little as a pound (or a 'squid') each!
